Wydział Historii Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego ma przyjemność zaprosić wszystkich zainteresowanych we wtorek 26 stycznia 2021 roku na otwarty wykład doktora Stefana Halikowskiego-Smitha ze Swansea University zatytułowany, "Between Illusions and Realities. Recovering Missionary Accounts of Southeast Asia from the End of the Seventeenth Century".
Wykładowca, który jest uznanym badaczem imperiów zamorskich, spędza semestr zimowy r.a. 2020/2021 jako profesor wizytujący na Wydziale Historii w ramach Programu ZIP. Wykład koncentruje się na dwóch fascynujących opisach Azji Południowo-Wschodniej autorstwa jezuity Guy’a Tacharda i augustianina Nicolasa Cima, z których wiele można dowiedzieć się zarówno o XVII-wiecznej Azji, jak i o Europie.

The Faculty of History (University of Warsaw) is delighted to hold the lecture of Doctor Stefan Halikowski Smith (Swansea University) entitled "Between Illusions and Realities. Recovering Missionary Accounts of Southeast Asia from the End of the Seventeenth Century."
Doctor Halikowski Smith, a reputed researcher of the Early Modern trading empires and the Missionary written culture, is a visiting professor in the academic year 2020/21 (ZIP Program). The lecture focuses on the description written by Guy Tachard, a French Jesuit, and by Nicola Cima, an Italian Augustinian. These interesting, substantial texts tell us a lot both about the Europeans who were writing them, and about Southeast Asia in a period when information was in much shorter supply than prior to 1688.
